Wax Carving – an introduction

Wax melting and carving is a fascinating art that can result in some amazing pieces that can be sold, gifted or simply appreciated as decorations in your own home or business. Items that can be made include decorative pieces, jewelry and functional items (like candles) among others. As you may imagine though, some of the more advanced techniques do require precision melting by means of use of butane torches and tools that can be heated to extreme temperatures to facilitate a pin-point melt.

This is where Silicone Alley comes in to provide the tools and safety measures needed to make wax melting and carving a successful journey without any accidents that could cause harm to the artist or people within the workshop vicinity.

For example, these handy carving tools serve a dual purpose when heated. The tips of these tools, also known as “dabbers” because you can dab wax with them to make sculpture modifications, can be heated to red hot temperatures and then pressed against wax to create more precise melted sections of a work of art. Take care though, as the hot tips can burn skin if contact is made. Also, to avoid burnt table tops, we recommend using non stick mats that can absorb the heat of the dabbing implement after it has been heated and set down.
